Senior Civil Engineer I/II – Land Development

Salary Range: $95,000–$120,000 per year

Position Overview
We are seeking a Senior Civil Engineer I/II to support land development projects in San Diego. This role is responsible for developing complex civil engineering designs, preparing technical calculations and reports, supporting construction administration, and ensuring the quality and completeness of project deliverables.
The ideal candidate has strong land development design experience, proficiency with AutoCAD and Civil 3D, and the ability to solve complex engineering problems independently while providing technical guidance to junior staff.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop civil engineering designs based on project constraints, site conditions, agency standards, project objectives, and engineering best practices
- Prepare complex grading designs and earthwork calculations
- Perform calculations involving hydrology, hydraulics, water quality, stormwater detention, and utility sizing
- Prepare technical reports, construction plans, calculations, and supporting documentation
- Support construction administration, including RFIs, submittals, and construction changes
- Conduct detailed QA/QC reviews of engineering plans and deliverables
- Confirm that project deliverables are accurate, complete, and compliant with applicable requirements
- Independently solve complex engineering and land development design problems
- Train, mentor, and provide technical assistance to junior engineering staff
- Coordinate with project managers, technical managers, clients, agencies, and other project stakeholders
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or a related discipline
- Five to seven years of civil engineering experience, depending on previous land development design experience
- Minimum of two years independently solving complex land development engineering problems
- Strong land development design experience
- Proficiency in AutoCAD and either Land Development Desktop or Civil 3D
- Active Engineer-in-Training certification
- Experience with grading, drainage, utilities, hydrology, hydraulics, water quality, and stormwater design
- Experience preparing technical reports and complex engineering calculations
- Strong communication, organization, technical, and problem-solving skills
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively
- U.S. citizenship required
Preferred Qualifications
- Active Professional Engineer license
- Experience supporting construction administration
- Experience training or mentoring junior engineering staff
- Experience conducting formal QA/QC reviews
