A growing, privately held commercial construction company is seeking an experienced Preconstruction Estimator to take ownership of the estimating and preconstruction function. This is a newly evolving role that will work directly with the company owner, who currently manages the estimating function, making this an excellent opportunity for someone who wants visibility, autonomy, and the ability to help shape processes as the company continues to grow.
This position may be fully remote, and candidates do not need to be located near the company's office.
Manage the estimating process from initial bid opportunity through project handoff.
Review plans, specifications, bid documents, addenda, and contract requirements.
Perform quantity takeoffs and develop labor, material, equipment, and subcontractor cost estimates.
Solicit, analyze, and level subcontractor and supplier pricing.
Identify scope gaps, risks, exclusions, and cost-saving/value-engineering opportunities.
Prepare competitive proposals, budgets, and estimate summaries.
Support negotiated work, conceptual estimating, and change-order pricing.
Work closely with ownership and project management to ensure a smooth transition of awarded projects.
Develop and maintain historical pricing, estimating templates, processes, and best practices.
Help evaluate and implement estimating software and technology as the function continues to evolve.
Demonstrated commercial construction estimating/preconstruction experience.
Strong plan-reading and quantity takeoff skills.
Experience soliciting and evaluating subcontractor/vendor bids.
Strong understanding of construction costs, scopes of work, and project documentation.
Comfortable managing multiple bids and deadlines simultaneously.
Tech-savvy and comfortable learning or implementing estimating and takeoff software.
Self-directed, organized, analytical, and comfortable working remotely.
Able to communicate effectively with ownership, project teams, subcontractors, suppliers, architects, engineers, and clients.
This is a hands-on opportunity for an estimator who enjoys both doing the work and improving how the estimating function operates.
